
By the end of 2021, experts will have announced the top three journalists in Ukraine in three nominations.
The National Award “High Standards of Journalism” has started its work, this year the 5th anniversary ceremony is taking place.
According to the press release of the award, by the end of 2021, experts will have announced the top three journalists of Ukraine in three categories:
- “For a sustainable and high-quality media project/product”;
- “For rapid and high-quality development in the profession”;
- “For a quality regional/niche media project”.
“Every year there is a partial change of the expert group, in particular, the winners and nominees of the short list of previous years are added. The winner of 2020, TV presenter Myroslava Barchuk, joined the selection of winners in 2021,” says Vitalii Lomakovych, the founder of the award.
Therefore, the expert group of the award “High Standards of Journalism – 2021” includes: journalist, TV presenter of Syspilnyi Myroslava Barchuk; editor-in-chief of the business news portal Liga.net Borys Davydenko; editor-in-chief of the online publication “Media Detector” Natalia Ligachova; journalist, columnist, TV presenter Pavlo Kazarin; media expert, media researcher of Lviv Media Forum Ihor Balynskyi; editor-in-chief and co-founder of the TEXTY.org.ua online publication Roman Kulchynskyi; author of media monitoring of the online publication “Media Detector”, media expert of Lviv Media Forum Zoia Krasovska; editor-in-chief of magazine Local History Vitalii Liaska; media expert, executive director of Lviv Media Forum Yurii Opoka.
“This year, as part of the Award, we are announcing a special project – the award “For the best journalist investigation of abuse and corruption in the electricity market”. Long, short lists and winners will be selected by experts from the non-governmental organization Growford Institute, who are competent in this field. The winner will receive a statuette of the prize and a cash prize”, Vitalii Lomakovych announces.
According to him, the main goal of the special project is to increase the number of objective, analytical materials about the work of the electricity industry in the media and to draw public attention to the activities of the electricity market. After all, Ukraine’s fuel and energy complex has been under political and oligarchic influence and is one of the most corrupt sectors of the Ukrainian economy.
Traditionally, the winners will be selected in three stages. A long list of contenders for victory will be announced in September, and a short list – in November. And the winners will be announced in December.
The High Standards of Journalism Award is a professional award founded by Vitalii Lomakovych in 2016. In 2020, the publication Crimea.Realities won in the nomination “For a quality regional/niche media project”; Liga.Life editor Iryna Andreitsiv was recognized the best in the nomination “For rapid and high-quality development in the profession”; The winner in the nomination “For a sustainable and high-quality media project/product” was a journalist, TV presenter of Syspilnyi Myroslava Barchuk.
